Snooker UK Championship Betting Odds
The Betway UK Championship is a snooker ranking tournament and one of the Triple Crown events. It’s considered the second biggest snooker tournament in the world right after the World Championship. The championship has been held since 1977 and is organized by the WPBSA. Over the years, the tournament has changed its name due to major sponsorship deals and is one of the snooker championships televised by BBC. It is held near the end of the year (usually end of November) and currently has a prize fund of £850,000. This year’s edition will be held at the Barbican Centre in York.
The first tournament was held in 1977 in Blackpool under the name of United Kingdom Professional Snooker Championship. It was opened exclusively to British players (or passport holders) and was won by Patsy Fagan. The huge popularity of the event led to an increase in prize winnings and a change of rules in 1984 when the championship became a ranking tournament.

Snooker UK Championship 2018 Betting and Odds Preview
Over the years, many great snooker players have won the UK Championship several times. Current champion and snooker legend Ronnie O’Sullivan has broken Steve Davis’ record of 5 titles just last year, and he’s the favourite this year again. Stephen Hendry has won the UK Championship five times.
There were many memorable moments at the UK Championship throughout the years. Ronnie O’Sullivan had broken more than a few records at the tournament – he’s the player with most titles and the youngest player to win the Championship as well. Experts and bookies all agree that O’Sullivan is the biggest favourite for winning the UK Championship twice in a row, and considering the fact that he’s probably the greatest snooker player ever, we couldn’t agree more.
Event Date: November 27 – December 9, 2018
Is O’Sullivan On the Way to A Seventh Title?
It’s really no wonder why O’Sullivan is considered arguably the best snooker player of all time. The Englishman’s title record is second only to Stephen Hendry, and no one has any doubts that he’ll catch Hendry’s 36 titles soon. With 5 World Championship behind his name and 6 UK Championships, the legendary O’Sullivan is rightfully the main favourite for a record seventh title in York.
All bookmakers view him as a favourite, with no one even coming close to O’Sullivan’s chances. Well, Mark Selby is close, but not really that close. The current champion will be the guy to beat, and everyone’s going to have a hard time doing it.
O’Sullivan stands at odds of 7/2 at Energy Bet and LV BET and 33/10 at Sport Pesa, 10 Bet, and Ole777. Atypical for such a big favourite, O’Sullivan’s odds are a pleasant sight for experienced punters. Placing a bet on the Englishman’s chances will quadruple your investment and then some, so why not put some money on him? If you ask us, we’d put our money on O’Sullivan right now while the odds are still ‘hot’.
Can Selby Really Challenge the Rocket?
Mark Selby is the current world number one and a three-time world champion. He’s one of the six players that has won Triple Crown events more than once and has over 500 century breaks during his career. Selby is a seriously good player and according to some experts, the only man who could really challenge O’Sullivan at the moment.
The odds at bookies say that Selby’s is the main challenger for O’Sullivan’s throne. LV BET and Energy Bet are giving Selby odds of 5/1 to win the UK Championship, while Ole777, Sport Pesa, and 10 Bet have him at 11/2. These odds are pretty enticing, so if you think that Ronnie O’Sullivan isn’t on his way to a record 7th UK Championship title, Mark Selby is probably your best bet.
Selby has won 2 titles at the UK Championship (2012 and 2016), and he’ll no wonder like to add a third title behind his name. Doing it over O’Sullivan will be perfect. Make no mistake – Selby is a tough player who will give his best to defeat his opponents, no matter who he’s facing. With such enticing odds, punters should take Selby into consideration. Yes, O’Sullivan’s odds are great, but given his temper, we think that anything can happen, so make your choice carefully.
Return of the Wizard of Wishaw?
John Higgins is the closest player to Ronnie O’Sullivan title-wise. With 30 titles in his career, he’s trailing only O’Sullivan (33) and Hendry (36). He has 730 century breaks in his career and was world number 1 on several occasions. He’s definitely one of the most successful snooker players in the last century and it’s fair to say that if it wasn’t for Ronnie O’Sullivan, Higgins would be the top snooker player.
John Higgins has won the UK Championship thrice before, with his last title coming in 2011. He’s had a slump from 2012 onward, but that doesn’t mean he can’t
defeat anyone he plays against. Higgins is always among the top 3 or 5 favourites at any tournament he enters, and maybe this will be the year he finally gets the elusive fourth UK Championship title.
Right now, bookies are placing Higgins 3rd or 4th on the list of favourites. LV BET and Energy Bet have him on the third spot with odds of 8/1, while 10 Bet, Ole777, and Sport Pesa have given him odds of 9/1, placing Higgins just behind Judd Trump (8/1). This means that the Scottish player certainly has a chance, even though O’Sullivan is the obvious favourite. With a bit of luck, Higgins may go deep in the tournament and who knows, maybe even win it all.
The Case for Judd Trump
Current number four in the world Judd Trump is being given equal or similar odds to John Higgins for this year’s UK Championship, which doesn’t sit right with many fans. Still, no one should forget that the youngest player among the favourites has beaten Ronnie O’Sullivan in finals on several occasions, and has already won the UK Championship once before, so his odds aren’t a coincidence.
Known as a prolific break-builder, Trump will pounce on any opportunity he can. He’s much younger than the other favourites (28 years old), and he’ll no doubt want to win the tournament for the second time. Trump’s odds look great especially if you’re a punter who doesn’t like betting on the major favourites.
Energy Bet and LV BET have given Trump odds of 9/1, while Ole777, 10 Bet, and Sport Pesa have him at 8/1. This puts him breathing down the neck of Higgins and separates him from other players down the list such as Mark Williams (12/1) or Ding Junhui (14/1). It’s clear that bookies and experts consider him a threat to legends such as O’Sullivan and Higgins, which is undeniable proof of Trump’s quality.
